This manuscript was donated by Michele Lyons, who is a fourth generation Coloradoan. Her grandfather was born in Alma, Colorado in 1888. This manuscript was found among her mother’s things and details the Rush family history in Leadville and Brown Canon, and includes stories about the Leadville and Salida area, and details about the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad.Ā  Lyons’ grandfather may have known Rush because he also worked for the railroads in Colorado and grew up in the area at the same time as Charles Rush.

Charles Rush (grandfather of Bob Rush) was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in April 1869. He was an engineer for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

This manuscript has been edited slightly (mainly punctuation) for readability purposes. The original is in the Salida Archive which is available for viewing.
