Salida Centennial Photo Archive – The Salida Centennial Committee has compiled this collection of old photographs as an ongoing project to help preserve the history of Salida and the surrounding areas.
An Anonymous Collection – The following photos include local scenes and picture postcards. They were donated anonymously.
Bateman Family Collection – includes historic photographs of Bateman’s Hardware Store and downtown Salida.
Laura Evans Collection – Laura Evans, 1871-1953, was Salida’s most prominent madam. She conducted business from what is now the current home of the Mon-Ark Shrine Club on West Sackett. The cribs were located directly across the street.
Jean Hanfelt Collection – Photographer Jim Todd was employed full-time to document the historic setting of the Bureau of Reclamation’s Fryingpan-Arkansas Project. These photos represent some of his interest in historic sites around the area. They were donated by Jean Hanfelt, who worked on the project.
Richard Jackson Collection – two photos of Salida’s Denver & Rio Grande Roundhouse taken in the early 1950s.
Virgil Jackson Collection – from glass negatives found in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.
Jacobs Family Collection – collection includes historic photographs of downtown Salida and of the Jacobs Family.
Marge Large Collection – Marjorie Large served in the USMC from 1956 to 1959 and was known as ‘Sarge’ Marge Large.
Jack & Jerri Lines Collection – Collection includes photograph of Salida High School’s 1905 football team, a letter written from Arthur Hutchinson to Jerome K. Wilcox, and statements of early residents of the area compiled by Jerome Wilcox.
Billie Love Collection – Includes photo of work on the Sandusky building and two photos from the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen convention held in Salida in 1936.
Magic Lantern Collection – These are reprints from glass negatives that were loaned to Salida High School by Magic Lantern Photo for printing and filing in the school library as part of the Centennial History Project during the 1976-1977 school. The photos are mainly natural feature shots in the southern Chaffee County, Buena Vista, and Chalk Creek areas.
Charles S. Phalen Collection – Charles Stephen Phalen came to Salida in the summer of 1913 to do his medical residency at the Denver & Rio Grande Hospital. He married Catherine McGrath two years later in June of 1915. They lived at 645 F Street. When America entered World War I in 1917, Dr. Phalen enlisted in the Army Medical Corps and by late summer, they had left Salida. Dr. Phalen established a medical practice in Sparta, Wisconsin, where he died more than 60 years ago.
Bob Pierce Collection – various photos of the Chaffee and Lake County areas. The creation of Spiral Drive, the funeral for Ray Lines, and various images of train wrecks are included.
Jerry Potts Collection – While remodeling, a box of old photos was found behind an old chimney slated for demolition.
Betty Regnier Collection – This collection includes genealogy and photos of the Christison family from Howard, Colorado.
Rex Riggenbach Collection – contains photos in and around Salida, Colorado.
Bob Rush Collection – Bob Rush, prominent Salida attorney, had a large collection of photographs that adorned his office. He graciously donated his collection to the Salida Library.
Hollis & Virginia Spencer Collection – contains photos of Salida pioneer Hollis D. Spencer and his family and some historic shots of Salida.
John C. & Florence A. Tracy Collection – contains photos of a vacation trip to the Monarch area and other parts of Colorado.
Unknown Photo Collection – contains photos of downtown Salida, the Salida Hot Springs Pool under construction, and various shots of locomotives.
Nancy Williams Collection – This collection includes two class graduation pictures, the nursing school graduation photo, and two railyard shots.
